Old Minutes
Rhonda Parker,
co-chair, introduced and welcomed new people in
attendance:
Allen Bottoms, new Taylor County Rescue Squad Director,
Donna Gaddis, Campbellsville Independent Schools
Transportation Director and Krissy Cooper,
Campbellsville University social
work intern with Taylor County Family Resource
Center. The
August minutes were presented and reviewed. No corrections, additions
or deletions necessary. Motion was made by Dan
Durham to let the August minutes stand, seconded by Diane
Woods-Ayers. 23

Old
Business
Karen Hayes introduced
Darlene Humphress, Campbellsville Independent Schools WALK
Project Coordinator. Humphress commented on a
productive meeting with Campbellsville Independent School
representatives as well as plans for the
future.
SPF-SIG-
Athletic
passes for Campbellsville High and Taylor County High have
been distributed.
Champions
RFP-Cathy Williams from
the Regional Prevention Center said we should hear regarding
our award notification within the next two
weeks.
KY-ASAP-
Cathy
Williams clarified the reason the grant amount is being
lowered from $20,000 to 16,600 is due to budget cuts across
the state.
Drug Free
Communities-Flourishing compared
to this time last year; official award notification expected
soon; $125,000 for 5 years.
CTC Anti-Drug
Coalition Advisory Council-The first meeting of
the newly formed group was held at Creekside on September
19th. The
council is to assist in overseeing each grant
budget.
KPN-
Kentucky
Prevention Network Conference was held in Lexington,
September 10-11th. Those in attendance were
Karen Hayes, KPN Vice-Chair, Pam Quinn and Darlene
Humphress.
Commented positively on the worthiness of the
conference.
Drug Diversion
School-To be held in VA the
week of October 6th. Cathy Williams, Karen
Hayes and Rhonda Parker will be attending the school which
consists of prescription research, education and awareness
of diverting prescriptions.
NADDI
Regional-Scheduled in
Nashville, November 11-14th. Rhonda Parker shared NADDI
brochure and information available. There are funds
available to send one additional person.
KASPER-
Taylor
Regional Hospital and the CTC Anti-Drug Coalition are
partnering to offer an extended training session for
physicians and nurses, as well as community members on
November 20th, from 11:30-1:00 p.m. at the Taylor
County Extension Service. The Coalition
collaborating with Taylor Regional Hospital to help sponsor
this event, including sponsoring the food for the
training.
New
Business
Community/RPC/Updates-
Karen
Hayes said October is “Talk about Prescriptions”
month. Possible
presentations, radio and newspaper ads were ideas given to
increase community awareness on prescription
diversion.
Donna Gaddis noted that Bus Driver Safety Month is October.
The possibility of the Coalition hosting a breakfast for
Campbellsville Independent bus drivers and bus monitors
where they would attend a presentation on the signs and
symptoms of drug abuse was discussed. Donna Gaddis suggested the
training be offered to both local school
districts.
SAMSHA-
Cathy
Williams said according to SAMSHA, overall drug use across
the nation has dropped except for prescription drug
abuse.
Family Fun Day
–Lisa Beard, Taylor
County Family Resource Center, spoke about Family Fun Day,
September 22nd at Taylor County Elementary and
handed out fliers promoting the event. Karen Hayes reminded
members their desserts need to be dropped off at the CTC
Anti-Drug Coalition office. Desserts are to be sold at
Family Fun Day as a fundraiser for the Coalition; these
monies will be used to purchase items not fundable under
grants. It was
announced 32 degrees would also be on hand at the event with
the Coalition receiving a portion of the profits.
Adult Community
Survey-Rhonda Parker showed a
copy of last year’s adult community survey. Currently Dr. Eric Bruns,
Campbellsville University, is working on updating the
survey.
KIP
School
Survey-
Will be
administered to 6th, 8th,
10th and 12th grade students in both
school districts during the month of October by Pam Quinn
and Darlene Humphress, WALK Project
Coordinators.
WALK Logo
Contest-Contest ends September
26th at both school systems. Pam Quinn and Darlene
Humphress both praised the cooperation of their respective
school art teachers.
Red Ribbon
Week-RRW is October
23rd-October 30th. The following was
discussed:
-
CCX to
drive semi-truck to each elementary school for one lucky
class to tour and receive their RRW bracelets before the
rest of the school. In the past their
pictures have been taken and published in the
newspaper.
-
MADD
antenna toppers will be distributed to middle and high
school students to put on vehicles during
RRW.
-
Dog tags
were discussed as a possibility if appropriate funds were
available.
Drug Free
Clubs- An update was given by
Pam Quinn, Taylor County WALK Project
Coordinator.
Kroger
receipts- Were purchased with
SPF-SIG funds.
GR Cinema
6- The ad will start
airing next month.
Youth ads were done by
TCHS students Morgan Rose and Isaac Harris.
Discussed wanting to
do commercials featuring local community
voices. Al
Hardy suggested doing TV4 commercials with Campbellsville
University.
As You
Age-Cathy Williams, an
instructor gave positive comments on the
program. It
educates participants on the misuse and/or abuse of
medications.
Ideal for church groups, retired teachers, Sunday school
classes, etc. Karen Hayes mentioned
KPN contact information for proper disposal of
medications.
