Minutes


Rhonda Parker, co-chair, introduced and welcomed everyone in attendance. The September minutes were presented and reviewed.  No corrections, additions or deletions necessary.  Motion was made by Al Hardy the September minutes stand, seconded by Dan Durham.   16 members were present.  

Old Business 

Champions RFP Award- The Coalition received the highest award amount in the state of $7726 from the Department of Justice and Public Safety. 

Drug Free Communities Grant –We received official award notification of $125,000 for 5 years.  As a result will hire two Community Coordinator positions, one full-time and one part-time.  Interviews will begin next week. 

“WALK” Logo Contest-Darlene Humphress, WALK Project Coordinator presented the logo winning entries representing both school systems.  Humphress handed out copies of the entries and voting slips and asked the coalition members to vote for their favorite.  Frankie Barrera, 8th grader from Campbellsville Middle School was the overall winner and recipient of the $50 award. 

Family Fun Night-The Coalition raised approximately $100 from selling desserts and our cut from the 32 degrees sales.  These monies will be used to purchase items not fundable under grants.  Numerous Adult Community Surveys were completed. 

Bus Driver Safety training-November 10, 8:30 a.m. at the TCSD Transportation office, the Coalition will sponsor a breakfast and drug education training for CISD and TCSD bus drivers and monitors.  A presentation on the signs and symptoms of drug abuse will be discussed. 

KIP School Survey-Will be administered to 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th grade students in both school districts. Pam Quinn and Darlene Humphress, WALK Project Coordinators have completed CHS and CMS surveys.  TCHS and TCMS are scheduled for October 27-29.  Newton’s Education Center is scheduled for October 30.  Makeup survey dates will be in November. 

Red Ribbon Week- RRW is October 23rd-October 30th.  Events scheduled are: 

  • CCX to drive semi-truck to each elementary school for one lucky class to tour and receive their RRW bracelets before the rest of the school.  In the past their pictures have been taken and published in the newspaper.  CCX supplied free RRW bracelets to all students in both school districts. 
  • MADD antenna toppers will be distributed to middle and high school students to put on vehicles during RRW. 
  • Purchased RRW banner for both school districts middle and high school students to sign to pledge to be drug-free. 
  • Supplied drug free pledge cards to middle and high school students. 

Cinema Advertisement/Kroger Receipts- 

Trainings- 

  • NADDI National-November 11-14, Nashville, TN an education and training program focused on all aspects of prescription drug diversion. Karen Hayes and Rhonda Parker to attend. 
  • Kasper training- November 20, from 1120-1:00pm at the Taylor County Extension Service.  Taylor Regional Hospital and the CTC Anti-Drug Coalition are partnering to offer an extended training session for physicians and nurses, as well as community members.  The Coalition collaborating with Taylor Regional Hospital to help sponsor this event, including sponsoring the food for the training.   
  • Prime for Life under 21-October 20-23, Pam Quinn and Darlene Humphress to attend training in Richmond, KY. PRIME For Life is delivered to youth ages 13 to 20 who already engage in high-risk drinking or drug use or who are at risk for making bad choices. Locally it is offered through DJJ as a court diversion option. 
  • Central KY FCA “Weekend of Champions” Conference-November 8-9, Montgomery County High School, Mt. Sterling, KY.  Darlene Humphress to chaperone CHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a drug free club.   

 

New Business 

Community/RPC/Updates- 

  • Cathy Williams will be presenting a two hour program for pregnant women at the Central Kentucky Crisis Pregnancy Center on October 23, 330-530 p.m. 
  • MADD met October 14 and decided to host a booth at the Q104 Halloween Bash at TCES October 31, 5-7 p.m.  Next meeting will be November 11 at Taylor Regional Hospital, noon.   
  • School/Club Updates- 
    • Pam Quinn assisted with TCMS Angels group at Tim Horton’s Day Camp.  Quinn also participated in Clean Up Taylor County with TCMS Peers for Peace group.  Will pay for part of the Taylor County FCA’s t-shirts.  November 11 at TCMS, Quinn will participate in the Success by Six event. 
    • Darlene Humphress met with CHS FCA group and plans on teaching the One Way to Play anti-drug curriculum once a month at club meetings.  Humphress delivered the CISD faculty mouse pads.  Will pay for CHS t-shirts to promote school pride.  The coalition staff plans to host a table at the CMS PTSO/Faculty Basketball game to distribute drug education brochures and solicit Adult Community Surveys. 
  • CHS Report Card mailings-Anti-drug literature was provided to be mailed with report cards along with 340 stamps for postage. 
  • Assemblies  
    • Chris Bower at TCHS 
    • Mike Witham at CMS 

Drug Diversion School-Norfolk, VA, October 6-9.  Cathy Williams, Karen Hayes and Rhonda Parker attended the school focusing on prescription research, education and awareness of diverting prescriptions.  All three ladies shared what they learned from the training.
